According to the definition used by the Cochrane Collaboration, ‘Complimentary and Alternative medicines (CAM)’ is a broad domain of healing resources that encompass all health systems, modalities, practices and their accompanying theories and beliefs, other than those intrinsic to the dominant health systems. According to famous medical expert Eskinzi, they are broad health care practices that are readily not integrated into the dominant systems.

As per NIH of USA, they can be divided into seven major categories as below.

1. Mind-body medicine
2. Alternative Medicne
3. Lifestyle & Disease Prevention Practises
4. Biologicals Based Theraphies
5. Manipulative and Body Based Systems
6. Biofield
7. Bioelectromegnetcis.

All the systems mentioned above have their own way of diagnosing the diseases and giving treatments. According to this classification, the oriental systems like Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Indain Folk Medicine etc. fall in Alternative Medical Systems. There are so many different alternative systems of medicine are being practiced in different parts of the globe. The Herbalism is one such important time tested and universally practiced system of medicine, which has many unique and effective therapies for various ailments. The present research work falls in such a system. It is an ancient form of healing still widely used in much of the world.

The herbalism uses natural plants or plant-based substances to treat a range of illnesses and to enhance the functioning of the body's systems. Though herbalism is not a licensed professional modality in most of the developed countries including United States of America (USA), herbs are "prescribed" by a range of practitioners. A detailed account on ‘Herbal Remedy’ approach is studied in this research that is used for the poisonous animal bite treatments.

Apart from Herbalisam, there are are many other Alternative Systems, which are in wide practice across the globe. Some of those Alternative Systems of Medicine are summarized here for the better understanding of the approaches. Some of them, which are recognized by the Office of Alternative Medicine (OAM) of USA are listed here.
