Kaveri Nisargadhama is located a few kilometres away from the Mysore-Coorg border and not in the hilly terrains of interior Coorg. If you want to be with your beloved to enjoy the nature's beauty, it is great place to be. This 2.5 sq. km. large island in the middle of the River Cauvery, is an ideal destination.
Getting There:Taking the road is the best way to Nisargadhama. It is an eight-hour drive and several buses plying between Bangalore and Kushalnagar at regular intervals Nisargadhama is 3 km away from Kushalnagar and all buses going to Madikeri stop on the highway where the resort is located. Driving down on your own may get you there a bit faster and it is best to leave early in the day, to reach before nightfall.
Accommodation near Kaveri Nisargadhama:The Nisargadhama resort has 10-15 cottages and it is best to make a booking before setting out to Nisargadhama. There are 5 bamboo cottages, which are the best, and a few other bricks and cement structures. The cottages cost Rs 450 upwards and the smallest of them can accommodate 3 people. Attached to each cottage is a picture-postcard like ledge, looking over the water. The cottages furnished with minimal furniture but are snug and secluded. Things to Do while in Nisargadhama :Enjoy nature with a bit of fun thrown in. Nisargadhama offers boat rides and elephant rides and nature lovers can visit the deer park and the orchidarium.
This settlement is about 10 km away from the resort and boasts of a Buddhist temple with three 45 feet golden statues of the Buddha. There is a shopping lane in Bailkuppe, which sells all the traditional Tibetan ware that one can buy. A few tiny Tibetan restaurants nearby offer traditional momos. Alternately, take a trip to Madikeri, which is an hour’s journey from Nisargadhama. This hilly town is yet another sought after tourist destination that can be explored at leisure. If shopping is a priority buy pepper, coffee power or coffee beans, honey, cardamom and oranges at the State-run outlet or a co-operative shop so that you don’t get swindled.
