Koravangala is a store house of Hoysala architecture. This scenic village, earlier called Kora Mangala, is home to three Hoysala style temples of the 12th century. All the temples are dedicated to Lord Shiva. Two are in a dilapidated condition and only Bucheswara temple is intact.

Koravangala is located in Hassan District of Karnataka. It is around 10 km north-east of Hassan. Koravangala village lies in the inner ring of the Hassan and Dudda road. It is in Dudda Hobli of Hassan Taluk.

Hoysala Architectural Marvels:

In the regime of the Hoysala king Ballala the second, at the time of his coronation, the chief minister Boociraja has built a wonderful temple here in 1173.AD. In addition to the decorated walls, Sikhara, Mukha Mantapa, Navaranga and the Garbha Gruha containing Siva linga, there are two other sanctuaries - one containing a 6 ft high Sun god idol and the other enshrining Bhairava. Both these are in front of the main temple. Big inscriptions too exist. The images in the sculpture work here are beautiful without any doubt. Besides this temple there are the little temples of Nakeshwara and Govindeshwara built by Boociraja's brother in 1160 AD. And these are now in the condition of renovation.

How to reach there:

Hassan Railway Station is the nearest railhead. Mangalore Airport and Bangalore International Airport are the nearest airports. Frequent buses are available from Hassan.
