Dandeli and Ambikanagar are twin cities situated 16km apart. Dandeli, the picturesque city is located in the northern Karnataka. This place is known for its abundance of Greenery and the rare wild life, hence making it a tourist destination.

Undulating streams, whispering bamboo, diverse wildlife and innumerable trekking trails make Dandeli a dream destination. Kali River:

Named after the Goddess Kali, whose temple can be found in Kalapani, near the Indo Tibet border, the Kali River forms a continuous International border between India and Nepal. Adventure lovers will enjoy the many white water rafting excursions that Dandeli tourism offers. The peak white water rafting season runs from November until June, before the start of the monsoon season.

Kavala Caves:

Situated about 25 km from Dandeli, the Kavala Caves provide another interesting attraction to the region. This is not a hike for the timid. First, you must reach the entrance of the caves after walking down hundreds of steps. There are numerous bats in the cave, so visitors are told to keep their heads down. In many parts of the caves you must crouch or even crawl. Once these ancient limestone caves were home to prehistoric people.

Tribes of Dandeli:

Dandeli has a very diverse tribal community that live virtually side by side in the same area of forest. One such tribe is the Siddi tribe. The Siddi tribe was formed over 400 years ago, when they were brought from Africa and made into slaves, shared with the elite of India and the Portuguese.

Bison River Resort:

Bison River Resort is located on the banks of the magnificent Kali. Many excursions and activities are offered. Tourists will love the panoramic views of the river. At night the sounds of the river are invigorating and people remark on how refreshed they feel in the morning.

Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary:

Located in these fairytale surroundings, the sanctuary can be visited by jeep. Visitors can look for the rare and beautiful Black Panther. The list of interesting animals in the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary reads like a who is who in the world of exotic mammals. Deep inside the wildlife park is Syntheri Rock.
It is as if Mother Nature decided to erect a giant rock sculpture on the shores of the Kali River. The Syntheri Rock is made of granite and stands 300 feet tall. Erosion has left hundreds of nooks and crannies in the rock, which has become home to many pigeons and rock bees.

Best time to visit:

Best season Visiting the tourist attractions in Dandeli is best between the months of November through to early March. That is, generally, the warmest, sunniest time of the year. April to June can be hot and are the driest months of the region with temperatures reaching 40 degrees C. Travellers will find relief from even the warmest temperatures in the forests around Dandeli and the nearby forest resorts. Monsoon season usually begins in June and lasts through to September, making the forests come alive with greenery.
