Ulavi - Pilgrimage Centre PDF Print E-mail

Ulavi is a town about 75 km from Karwar (via Kumbarawada) in Karnataka state, India. It is an important center of pilgrimage for people of the Lingayat faith. Baburayana Kote (a ruined fort) and Gavi Matha, a series of caves are in this place. A trek to Aakalagavi, about 3 km from Ulavi, is another place of tourist interest near Ulavi.

The Samadhi of Channabasavanna, one of the most revered saints of the Lingayat faith lies here. In the 12th century, Channabasavanna traveled from Kalyana to Ulavi before he died. Very close to this holy Samadhi is the Akka Nagalambike cave named after Nagalambike, Channabasavanna's mother and Basavanna's sister.

Ulavi Jathre or Mela:

The Ulavi jathre or congregations attracts pilgrims from all over Karnataka. It is celebrated during August every year (Shravana Masa).

Nearby Ulavi there are a number of natural caves with interesting rock formations. From Ulavi, we have to trek around 7Km through the dense forest to reach the narrow caves.

Ulavi is 58 km from Dandeli and 90 km from Karwar.Dandeli Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
