Chikmagalur recipes - Karnataka, Indian native food

Chikmagalur district's economical back bone is agriculture. Coffee cultivation forming the major part of it and other important crops grown are cereals, i.e. rice, ragi, jowar, maize and minor millets, pulses like red gram, horse gram, green gram, avrekai (Hyacinth Beans), black gram and Bengal gram. Oil seeds like ground nut, sesamum, sunflower, castor and commercial crops like sugarcane, cotton, and tobacco are also grown here.

Similar to other malnad districts, Chikmagalur also has major part of the population in rural areas and the food style is very much linked to the geography they live. Similar to Hassan, raagi mudde & akki roti are very famous foods, though there is a variatio in which they prepare many of the other well known foods.
